Gregory P. Charko, M.D.

Dr. Charko was born in Elizabeth, NJ and was raised and educated in New Jersey. While in high school he attended courses at Columbia University’s Science Honors program. He was the Valedictorian of the class of 1974 at Woodbridge High School. Dr. Charko attended Cook College, a division of Rutgers University. On the Dean’s list for 7 semesters, he graduated with high honors in biochemistry in 1978. After obtaining his undergraduate degree, Dr. Charko attended UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School after that. He received his M.D. in 1982, and then continued at the same institution and it’s allied hospitals in northern and central New Jersey for his Orthopaedic surgery residency. In 1987 he entered private practice. He has been located in Union County for 22 years.

Dr. Charko is married with two children. He’s a sports fan and an avid photographer. Some of the pictures decorating the Union office are his work. He received a second place award from Caribbean Travel and Life magazine in their annual photo contest.

Although Dr. Charko is a general orthopaedist, he also performs spinal surgery. This includes minimally invasive endoscopic disc removal in the lumbar spine. He also performs arthroscopic surgery on the knee, shoulder, wrist, elbow, ankle and hip joints. In addition, he does joint replacement surgery especially in the knee and hip, and partial knee replacements. Dr. Charko also treats fractures, either with conservative measures, such as casting, or with surgery for severe fractures
